Eligibility
Applicants must be manufacturing companies that have significant manufacturing operations in the Wakefield district. The award ceremony is targeted to the promotion and recognition of SMEs in the Wakefield area and therefore applicants must be of this size. Obviously, this excludes the Large Manufacturer of the Year award which has been specifically arranged to recognise those organisations.
Eligibility for the New Manufacturer of the Year award is limited to businesses under 3 years old.

Manufacturer of the Year
Criteria for Manufacturer of the Year:
- Demonstrated strong or significant growth
- Demonstrated manufacturing leadership in the area or particular industry or market sector
- Demonstrated workforce enhancement and leadership development
- Demonstrated community involvement
- Demonstrated an increase in distribution base
- Demonstrated the ability to overcome challenges to enter new markets locally or globally including business expansion or product diversification

Exporter of the Year
Criteria for Exporter of the Year:
- Demonstrated an ability to succeed in international markets
- Demonstrated an increase in overall sales turnover through exporting
- Demonstrated significant growth or expansion overseas
- Demonstrated an ability to adapt a product or service to a new international market or markets
- Demonstrated innovation in the company’s processes, services or products to enable or increase exporting
- Demonstrated a commitment to expanding international business and/or the potential and plan for sustained growth in export markets
- Demonstrated international engagement, knowledge and/or experience of overseas markets

This category is limited to companies operating within the food & drink manufacturing sector. Criteria for Food & Drink Manufacturer of the Year:

- Demonstrated manufacturing leadership in the area or particular industry or market sector
- Demonstrated workforce enhancement and leadership development

Innovation in Manufacturing
This award celebrates innovations executed through new products, processes, markets and business models which have driven greater productivity, efficiency and/or business growth. This award will consider one single innovation as well as how a culture of innovation has been created.
Criteria for Innovation in Manufacturing:
- Introduction of a new innovative product or service to the market
- New product or process innovation supported by investment in digital manufacturing technologies
- Investment in advanced technologies and equipment that are new to the sector
- Collaborative partnerships within the company’s supply chain or with external bodies such as Centres of Excellence or Universities
- Changes in working practices leading to Improved efficiencies
- A new business model to take the business in a new direction

This award has been developed to recognise those that have done the most to build skills, talent and develop their employees internally and/or promote engineering and manufacturing careers through activities within the community.
Criteria for Apprenticeships in Manufacturing:
- Significant investment in new/continued apprenticeship scheme(s)
- Individual success stories of career development from apprenticeship foundations

This category is limited to companies with over 250 employees or a turnover greater than £25M. Criteria for Large Manufacturer of the Year:
- Demonstrated evidence of continuous improvement & innovation in manufacturing methods
- Displays evidence of sound practices in business operations
- Employee engagement & appreciation, and involvement in workforce development initiatives
- Displays evidence of active community involvement and making a key contribution to the area
- Displays evidence of involvement to advance industry and manufacturing in general
- Improved or increased skills, training and development opportunities through accredited qualifications programmes or local workplace initiatives
- Displays evidence of using/prioritising local businesses in the supply chain
